PUPPY NUTRITION:

Your puppy is being fed: Diamond Puppy

Growth is an especially crucial time for your puppy, especially during weaning. The correct kibble size, shape and texture can help to ease that transition. Poor nutrition can inhibit proper development and significantly impact future health. The medium breed puppy will benefit from a specific formulation that addresses his unique needs.

Puppy Nutrition and Dietary Instructions:

All of our puppies are currently being fed Diamond Puppy. DO NOT immediately change their diet when you get them home.

REMEMBER that sudden changes in diet can SEVERELY disrupt the puppy’s digestive system and cause gastric distress. The Siberian Husky requires a relatively small amount of food for its size.

CHANGING THE PUPPY’S DIET:

Should you decide to change the puppy’s diet, you must do so gradually. Sudden changes in diet can cause vomiting, indigestion, heartburn, refusal to eat, gas and diarrhea. Normal bacteria in your pup’s intestine aid in the digestion of food, and a sudden change in food can upset the balance of this bacteria causing any and all of these ailments. That’s why it’s best to change food slowly over the course of about ten days.

  • Start by giving 75% of the current food with 25% of the new food for three days
  • If your dog adjusted well to this change, then proceed to offer 50% of the current food mixed with 50% of the new food for days four through six
  • Once again monitor your pup and if he/she is doing well then it is safe to increase the amount of the new food to 75% with just 25% of the old food for days seven through nine
  • By day 10, if your puppy has adjusted well, you can successfully offer just the new food without worrying.
  • If you notice any adverse effects while switching, stop immediately and allow your puppy’s stomach to settle and contact your vet if symptoms persist.
  • After the switch has been made, continue to watch for any changes that may develop with the new food, such as an improvement or deterioration of coat/skin, and increase or decrease in appetite, or a change in bowel movements. As always, use your best judgment in deciding what is best for your pet.
  • NOTE: Rawhides and hard dental chews are a great way to help keep your puppy’s teeth tartar free.
  • TABLE SCRAPS are NOT good! Human food often contains far too much fat for a canine’s liver to process and can cause diarrhea, upset tummies and damage to the pancreas.
  • DO NOT ADD WATER to their food. If you add water to their food and make it mushy, they can and will eat their food too quickly. this again will cause vomiting, indigestion, diarrhea, etc. The dry food also aids in cleaning their teeth.

We feed our puppies Diamond Puppy as they are weaned. We then continue them on the dry food diet until one year of age. We do this so we don’t complicate the development of their digestive system. Once they are old enough we include them in the normal food rotation as described on below.

Did You Know?
Dogs have very few taste buds and a resulting poor sense of taste. They rely on smell to determine food preference!
Add something that will appeal to their sense of smell like bacon bits or fat, gravy drippings or any savory smelling additive to their regular kibble.

NuVet Labs

We love animals and we know you love them too! Unfortunately, the majority of dogs and cats are not receiving a complete, healthy diet and many become ill and die prematurely.  NuVet LabsTM main purpose is to help increase your pet's longevity and quality of life. Our products, NuVet PlusTM for Canines and NuVet PlusTM for Felines, provide the very best human-grade, natural ingredients available and utilize the latest advances in medical, veterinary and nutritional science. We pledge to adhere to the highest standards in products and services. Our goal is to maintain a lasting and caring relationship with our family of NuVet PlusTM customers and their pets they love.

Our scientists, veterinarians and formulators began with the premise that most pet diets are lacking the proper amounts of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. There are important nutrients that animals once received when they were living in a more primitive environment that are not available in the modern diet. Commercial pet foods contain numerous by-products that can make them poisonous, toxic and incapable of reducing the devastating effects of unstable oxygen molecules, also known as "free radicals." Free radicals have been implicated in more than fifty health problems in humans and animals including various forms of cancer, heart disease, arthritis, cataracts and premature aging.

After extensive testing with many different combinations of ingredients, our scientists formulated NuVet PlusTM. We believe, based on the most current medical, veterinarian and nutritional reports, NuVet PlusTM will combat the onslaught of free radicals in our companion pets. This unique formula consists of precise amounts of vitamins, minerals and high-potency antioxidants that when combined, create a synergistic and powerful boost to the immune system.

Our Siberian Huskies’ Diet:

We rotate our dogs’ diet. Why? We rotate the dogs between several high quality, high protein foods. The benefit to a rotational diet is that your dog has less chance of developing an allergy to any of the ingredients. Just like people can develop food allergies, so can dogs. Food rotation also keeps them from getting bored with their food, so they keep a healthy appetite.

With 1 in 3 dogs in the US suffering from allergies, it might be time to look for alternatives to the antihistamines and steroids prescribed by vets.

Commercial dog foods are the leading cause of allergies. If your dog is showing allergic symptoms: scratching, rubbing, chewing at his skin, developing bald or hot spots, irritable behavior and low energy or discharge from his eyes or ears, look to his food as a way to help.

A Dog’s Diet: It is generally agreed a dog’s diet should contain 22% protein, 6% fat, and 4% fiber. The rest should be an equal mix of vegetables and starches. Supplement with a multivitamin and rotate ingredients regularly to ensure a balanced diet.

Along with fresh meat, rice and vegetables, we rotate our Huskies’ diet with several high protein commercial foods described on the following pages. Premium dog foods, such as Canidae, have the advantage that one can feed the dog less and still get very good nourishment. In addition, stool size and amount can be considerably less than with inexpensive, lesser quality foods.
